February 25, 2013 was a special day for families in Alimodian, Iloilo. It was their “Fun-tastic Day”. Alimodian replicated the practice of Navotas City of designating a special day for families to gather together to celebrate. But Alimodian gave the day a special touch. Family members from all the 37 schools participated with over 200 participants coming in full force. It was a day filled with excitement. Dr. Myrna Castillo, Division Superintendent of Schools of Iloilo, was the guest of honor. She took time to have a dialogue with the parents about their problems and concerns in their respective schools. Parents were so happy and said that it was their first time to have a candid discussion with a top official from DepEd.
The folk dancers from Alimodian High School who won first place in the Regional Palaro performed to the delight of the crowd. Their performance was a special request form Mayor Alipao. Parents came from far-flung areas and brought organic high- value crops like carrots, broccoli, cauliflower and lettuce. The “Fun-tastic Day” became an instant agro-fair. Games and more games followed. The day’s activities were capped with the distribution of certificates to the administrators and PTA officials acknowledging their active participation in the Education Reform Program of the municipality.
