Nerds do fall in love. And they can enter the final frontier of marriage with a generous helping of romance, starry-eyed excitement, and walking-on-clouds kind of smile, just like the rest of us mortals!

Last November 30, 2010, Synergeia’s very own Aissa Ereneta (Ma. Isabelle Margarita E. Ereñeta, Junior Program Officer) walked down the isle and vowed to “live long and prosper” with Ryan Joseph M. Sumo, an artist and her boyfriend of hundreds of years if measured by the books they have read and miles they have traveled happily together. Yes, they laughingly call themselves nerds.
It was an elegant affair, with a refreshingly relaxed atmosphere most weddings only aspire for. Guests were treated to delicious tidbits of history—their theme after all was 19th century colonial Philippines, held at La Castillana in Intramuros on Katipunan Supremo Andres Bonifacio’s birthday—as well as yummy spicy tuyo in angel hair pasta, seared sesame-crusted tuna with wasabi mashed potatos, and the beef in the Osso Bucco was just marvelously cooked. The moist chocolate cake and tiramisu were also heavenly!
But even more heavenly was the interesting mix of adoration and barkada-like, irreverent closeness of the two newlyweds. You could easily imagine them fighting passionately and being crazy about each other in the same breath.
“From the moment they first met, they knew they were kindred spirits. Ryan, who has a keen interest in history, was taken with Aissa, who was teaching Philippine History at her university at the time. Aissa, who finds that most people don’t think of globalization as an exciting topic of conversation on a first date, was delighted when Ryan brought up the work of Nobel Prize-winning economist Joseph Stiglitz. Over the course of the evening they discovered they had many other shared interests: comic books, science fiction, science and technology, cultural anthropology, and travel among them,” their wedding website, states.
Kindred spirits indeed! Live long and prosper, you two. Your Synergeia family loves you!
