Local School Board representatives from Claveria, Magsaysay and Villanueva in Misamis Oriental attended the LSB Reinvention workshop held at The VIP Hotel in Cagayan De Oro City, Misamis Oriental last June 17, 2008. Staff from the Provincial Office of Misamis Oriental also attended and participated.

Governor Oscar Moreno warmly opened the workshop emphasizing the province’s support for the Synergeia Reading Proficiency Program and reforms in public schools despite difficulties encountered.
Mayor Jesse Robredo’s (now DILG Secretary) Reinvention of the Local School Board presentation generated a lot of interest and hope from the participants. During the open forum, seeing the Naga City experience and transformation showed the participants the vital and empowering roles of a Local School Board.
Claveria, Magsaysay and Villanueva LSB members shared their insights on Mayor Robredo’s presentation and subsequently tackled issues hounding their efficacy as a Local School Board in their municipalities. This eventually inspired them to draw out resolutions in reinventing themselves such as setting timelines and deliverables they can work on an easy and doable scale.
The workshop closed with staff from the Provincial Office of Misamis Oriental affirming their commitment and cooperation in helping the three municipalities implement the Synergeia Reading Program. Planning and Budget Officers stated that knowing the sites have limited budgets they will provide aid in some of the activities in need of funding support such as the student workbooks and lesson guides for teachers.
