As proof of their commitment to provide children with quality education, Mayors from Maguindanao will converge in a strategic planning on January 19, 2012 in Cotobato. They will share their best experiences in working with children, teachers and schools and analyse the factors which made these programs successful. The next in their agenda is to map out programs that they will undertake this year in their municipalities and collectively as a region.
The education programs led by the Local Chief Executives have gained nationwide recognition. The community-based program of Upi under the leadership of Mayor Ramon Piang was recognized by Galing Pook Foundation as outstanding in local governance. The initiatives of Mayor Tong Paglas and Mayor Langkuno in building capabilities of teachers and parents as well as their livelihood training programs for out-of school-youth have also been cited as models in community involvement.
The new Synergeia communities in Maguindanao such as Parang are implementing comprehensive programs to help children, including a feeding program. SK Pendatun and Sultan Sabarongis have conducted their education summits and are all set to do their teachers’ training.
