Navotas City Government, through its PMT headed by Mayor John Rey Tiangco, will hold family day activities until March 17 in all 21 public primary and secondary schools in the city.
The Project Management Team (PMT) of Navotas City, led by Mayor John Rey Tiangco, is giving all-out support for the holding of a “Family Day” in all its 21 public elementary and high schools to boost school-parent relations.
On its third PMT meeting last February 6, 2012, at least five schools reported having successfully conducted their “Family Day”, through joint efforts of parents, teachers, local leaders, and other community stakeholders. The rest of the schools submitted their plans for the activity, also dubbed as “Funtastic Day”. The day is a fellowship among parents, students, and teachers, and school officials.
Principals who already had their “Family Day” in their schools last January shared that the activity generated a lot of goodwill and clearly demonstrated that community collaboration works. In some schools, teachers offered to give prizes for the games, the school and PTA provided food, while local officials gave additional support.
The principals of Kapitbahayan and North Bay Elementary Schools recounted how thrilled their students were to have interacted with Mayor Tiangco, who even indulged them in a game of ping-pong.
For his part, Mayor Tiangco expressed elation over the positive response of parents and students to the activity.
“It is a good bonding experience for parents and kids,” he said, noting the joy in the faces of children seeing their parents participate in games, or playing with them.
Mayor Tiangco added that the LGU is willing to give additional funding to the schools for the activity, while recognizing the efforts of the principals to mobilize support from other sectors. He also asked the school heads to continue nurturing a good relationship with parents so they can work together and help each other out in addressing school concerns. He
School “Family Days” are expected to run until March 17. But already, the Navotas PMT is preparing follow-up activity for parents – a training aimed to help them become better parents to their children. Details will be tackled in the next PMT meeting set on March 16.

Mayor John Rey Tiangco joins the parents, teachers and students of San Rafael National High School in a boodle fight during a Parent-Teacher-Student Fun Day, dubbed “Funtastic Day!”; held in support to the effort of the city’s Project Management Team to encourage the active participation of parents in the learning activities of their children.
