  • Credit Suisse enables Tondo children to achieve more

    With continuing grant assistance from Credit Suisse, Synergeia pursued the Reading Proficiency program for Manuel L. Quezon Elementary School (MLQES) in school year 2007-2008. The program, named by the community as the “Zero Non-Reader Program”, began two years ago with 850 Grade One pupils. On its third year, 700 Grade Three students and their teachers are directly benefiting from the program. Most of these pupils happen to be the same students who started with the program in school year 2005-2006 and are now reaping the fruits of sustained interventions to increase reading proficiency.
  • Former Secretary Victor O. Ramos helps build a better future for the children of Natividad, Pangasinan

    Progress Report as of June 2008 In 2007, Sec. Victor Ramos, Synergeia Foundation and the Municipal Government of Natividad entered into a partnership to enable 650 grade one students in 18 elementary schools in Villanueva to read, write and understand simple English. These skills are critical in developing the comprehension, communication, and thinking capabilities of children.
  • San Roque Power Corporation invests in the education of children from Pangsinan and Benguet

    Progress Report as of June 2008 In July 2007, San Roque Power Corporation, Synergeia Foundation and the Municipal Governments of San Manuel and San Nicolas in Pangasinan and Itogon, Benguet entered into a partnership to enable 3,344 grade one students in 89 elementary schools to read, write and understand English1. These basic skills are critical in developing the comprehension, communication, and thinking capabilities of children.

    (A Quick Look at the Numbers) 1. Reduced the number of non-readers. In 2005-- 8 out of 10 grade one students were unable to read. Three years after, non-readers number only 1 out of 10 (except in Paglas).
  • Philippine Tatler adopts Synergeia as its charity

    Synergeia will be the beneficiary of the Seventh Anniversary Ball of Philippine Tatler on October 11, 2008 at the Rizal Ballroom of Makati Shangri-la.  Philippine Tatler aims to help support the education of 1500 public school children in Silang, Cavite at a cost of Php 375,000 per year.  Philippine Tatler would like to help the children for a total of six years and will fully subsidise two of those years. It calls its friends and donors to support the children for the remaining six years.

    Secretary Robredo issued  Memorandum Circular 2010-86  enjoining all Local Chief Executives to spearhead programs that will honor teachers in their localities.
  • Prieto-Diaz, Sorsogon joins Synergeia

    Prieto-Diaz is a fourth-class municipality in Sorsogon that is headed by Mayor Jocelyn Lelis. Armed with her sincere desire to improve achievement levels of students in elementary schools, the Mayor sought the help of Synergeia Foundation.

    When Grade One pupils in Sual Central School in Pangasinan were tested for reading proficiency from July 24 to 27, 2009, school administrators confirmed a hard fact: nine out of 10 pupils could not read and only 2% of the students were reading at the appropriate level. (View test results here)

  • 2009 opens with a bang! It's Tipanan in February

    After three years of “absence”, the much-anticipated Tipanan returns on February 20-22, 2009 at the WOW Philippines Clamshell 1, Intramuros, Manila.  Tipanan  celebrates significant progress in education reform throughout the country over the past years.  Once again, the event honors the Filipino child, with its theme, “Rekindling the Filipino Identity Among our Children”.

    iRemit, Inc. (iRemit), the country’s largest non-bank, Filipino-owned remittance company, has teamed up with Synergeia Foundation to improve reading skills in a school in Tondo, Manila. This is part of iRemit’s move to raise social awareness, generate public support and mobilize resources for children’s education in the Philippines despite the global economic crunch.

    Life changing moments come at the least expected time. For Abdulkarim Langkuno, not only did this come unexpectedly – but also at a very young age. Langkuno – who is now mayor of Paglat town in the province of Maguindanao – recalls how he was forced to run away from home at a tender age of 17 to escape aggressive recruitment efforts at that time for young Mindanaoans to join the armedstruggleagainst the government.
  • Tanim sa Kinabukasan Project Scales Up

    The "Tanim sa Kinabukasan" (TSK) project scales up with the inclusion of Naga City and the Aeta communities in Clark.  TSK builds the enthusiasm and capability of parents, students, and teachers to do backyard gardening.  Aside from contributing to healthy living, parents can also be engaged in livelihood programs to increase their earnings.  The East West Seed Company, Inc., partnered with Synergeia and started the project in San Jose City.
