Synergeia –Building Communities to Make Basic Education Work

Working Together.  Consultations
are going full blast with communities. Mayors chair education summits in 11 municipalities in Muslim Mindanao to discuss how to prevent dropouts and help children learn better.

USAID Comes a Visiting.  Tom Crehan, Chief of Education Office joins parents in education summits.  Mr. Crehan says ”Synergeia’s greatest strength is engaging local governments and communities to rally behind the education of their children. “

Re-energizing Teachers.  Teachers are organized in workshops to re- learn grammar, pronunciation, how to teach children how to read, as well as numbers, fractions, and how to use math to enable children to think logically.

Valenzuela City Joins Synergeia. The education program in Valenzuela City was launched with an assessment of training needs of private and public school teachers. Trustee Torralba energized the teachers with his talk on the “Joys of Teaching.”  The Mayor raffled off P30, 000 to the teachers, a simple proof that their presence matters.

Reinventing School Boards in Misamis Oriental.  Under the  leadership of Gov. Oscar Moreno, school boards had a workshop on engaging their communities to support their children in schools.  Each workshops ended with commitments and work programs.

Team Energy brings in Children from Sual, Pangasinan and   Pagbilao, Quezon into the Synergeia Reading Programs.  DEPED Secretary Jesli Lapus, Trustee W. SyCip and Mr. Puno, President of Team Energy sign a Memorandum of Agreement.

Superstars Meet.  Gov. Vilma Santos of Batangas gets advice from Mayor and Trustee Jesse Robredo on her program to scale up “Project K,” her outstanding reading program in Lipa throughout the entire province.

“Aral Tayo” of Alabel Grows Bigger.  Gov. Migs Dominguez and his Team rally the Kiamba community to stand together in support of “ClassROM” a program to enable all the children to read well.  His next stops, the municipalities of Malapatan and Malungon.

Alternative Ways of Learning.  With the support of USAID under EQuALLS 2 program, Synergeia will work with local governments to help out-of-school youth in ARMM gain competencies on basic literacy, life and livelihood skills.  Mr. Ed de la Torre has designed learning modules and conducted training programs for community educators

From Sir with Love.  K-Search partners with Teachers from St.  Mary’s Elementary School, Marikina City to improve the reading competencies of children.  The teachers from Ateneo Grade school served as their peer-mentors and ABS CBN Ces Drilon was their inspiration.
