K-Search Asia Consulting partners with St. Mary Elementary School and Synergeia to Help Every Child become a Reader

MARIKINA City, October 17, 2006 – Recognizing that English proficiency is key to success in the competitive job market, K-Search Asia Consulting entered into a partnership with St. Mary Elementary School and Synergeia Foundation to make 170 grade one children good readers in English. The dream is to enable children to develop good English reading and writing skills to equip them to become better students and productive citizens for the future.

The partnership was formalized with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between K-Search, the Department of Education, Marikina Division, St. Mary Elementary School and Synergeia. The parties were represented by Ms. Karmeli Quintanar, Senior Manager of K-Search; Dr. Flordeliza Mayari, Asst. Superintendent of DepEd Marikina Division; Ms. Emma Cruz, Principal of St. Mary Elementary School and Mr. Harvey Keh, Treasurer of Synergeia Foundation. Parents and teachers also expressed their openness to collaboration and their commitment to help children become the best readers.

The launch of the program was made festive and exciting as Museo Pambata and K-Search volunteer-employees conducted story-telling sessions, arts and crafts and educational games with the children. Students also had the opportunity to visit Museo’s Mobile Library, where they marveled at the extensive book collection. For many, it was their first time to visit a library. The activity helped spark interest and love for reading among children and they promised take time off from watching TV to read a book every week. The half-day activity ended with students happily lugging their gift bags of school supplies and snacks courtesy of K-Search.

The K-Search Reading Program also incorporates the conduct of a school education summit where community members can collaborate in planning and implementing the program, training for teachers on effective teaching of Reading, organization of parents into learning support-groups and assessment of student and teacher performance.
