Communities in Lanao del Sur get hands-on training in project dev’t.
April 8, 2009

About 80 PTCA officers, barangay leaders and teachers from Ganassi, Kapatagan and Marawi City attended the PTCA Training on the Community Incentive Grant (CIG) last April 6-7, 2009 at the Crystal Inn in Iligan City. The training was conducted by Synergeia Foundation under the EQuALLS2 Project to orient local communities on the mechanics of the CIG. The CIG is a grant facility within EQuALLS2 supporting community education and school improvement projects and may be accessed by the PTCA.
The training on the CIG was a breakthrough activity for both the PMT and PTCAs. It showed significant progress in the capacity of the PMT, whose members demonstrated skills in facilitating and managing a workshop, and a good grasp of the CIG mechanics. The PTCAs, on the other hand, went through hands-on exercises in project planning and development – from prioritization to budgeting and implementation. While it was the first such exercise for most of the participants, they managed to come up with detailed and well-prepared CIG project proposals.
The highlight of the training was the mock evaluation of the proposals, where participants defended their proposed projects before a review panel. The best part for the participants was realizing that they could do a project proposal on their own. The experience left them feeling fulfilled and excited with their newly-acquired skills.
